In 1980, John Michael Talbot founded "The Brothers and Sisters of Charity", a Catholic-based community of celibate brothers, celibate sisters, singles who can marry, and families, called as a monastic and domestic spiritual family into deep love relationships with and in Jesus Christ. They share common work and recreation areas while retaining appropriate separate cloistered areas for each expression. Our primary founder is Jesus, our primary rule is Scripture, and love is our primary law.
The members of the monastic expression live at the Little Portion Hermitage in Berryville, AR (just outside of Eureka Springs) under a scripture rule, and under the leadership of our founder.
They also have an international ecumenical expression consisting of single men and women and families, living in their own homes and sharing the same Rule and Constitution with the monastic expression.
Members are called by God to seek this life through the profession of the evangelical counsels, poverty, chastity and obedience. We hold dear substantial silence, substantial solitude, prayer and penance.
We live in an hour of history when God calls us to respond radically to His gospel call to evangelical life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. Are you one who will take up the call?
